Episode 4: David’s Secret and the Second Riddle
The group stands around the dining room, relieved after solving the first riddle. They exchange smiles, feeling a brief moment of happiness.
Mark: (grinning) One down, five to go. That wasn’t so hard, was it?
Sarah: (relieved) Maybe we’ll get through this after all.
Just as they start to relax, the room fills with the creepy, echoing voice of The Host.
The Host: (mocking) Well, well… you solved it! Easy peasy, right? But don’t get too comfortable. It’s time for the second riddle.
The Host: (darkly) But before we move on… David, it’s time to spill your full secret. Why did you really go to jail?
All eyes turn to David. He shifts uncomfortably, his face growing pale as the group stares at him, waiting for him to speak. David hesitates, taking a deep breath before starting to explain.
David: (nervously) Okay… I guess I should tell the whole truth. It happened one night when I was in this fancy, high-end area of the city. I was just hanging around when I saw these thugs beating up a guy. I didn’t know who he was, but it was clear he was a big shot—a wealthy businessman.
The group listens intently, their faces a mix of curiosity and disbelief.
David: (continuing) Instead of helping him, I pulled out my phone and started recording it. I don’t know why… I guess I thought I could catch it on camera and sell the video. But the area was restricted—no filming allowed in that part of the city. The police didn’t see the fight happening, but they caught me and threw me in jail for the night for filming in the restricted zone.
Lisa: (shocked) So you just stood there and filmed it? You didn’t even try to help?
David looks down, guilt written all over his face.
David: (quietly) I… I didn’t know what to do. It all happened so fast, and I panicked.
Mark: (angry) You watched someone get beat up and did nothing?
Emily: (disappointed) That’s just… wrong, David.
Everyone shakes their heads in disappointment, the air in the room growing heavier as they judge him.
Sarah: (sighing) Shame on you, David. That man could’ve died, and you just made a video.
David lowers his head, guilt washing over him. The group’s disapproval stings, and he feels the weight of his actions pressing down on him.
Suddenly, the voice of The Host returns, breaking the tense silence.
The Host: (teasing) Oh, poor David. Feeling guilty now, aren’t we? Well, let’s not waste any more time. Let’s see how you handle the next riddle and if you can solve it.
The Host’s voice echoes once more as a new piece of paper appears on the table. Sarah picks it up and reads the next riddle aloud.
Sarah: (reading) “What is broken but never spoken, lost in trust yet found in lies. A truth forgotten, wrapped in disguise. What am I?”
Lisa’s face goes pale, after listen to the riddle, She tries to hide her reaction, but the memory of her past betrayal suddenly flashes in her mind.
Years ago, during her college internship at a major company, Lisa had sold sensitive company information to a rival group for a hefty commission. She never got caught, but now, the fear that her secret might be exposed washes over her. Still, she tries to convince herself that the riddle might be about someone else.
Lisa’s heart races. She knows the answer but keeps quiet, hoping the others don’t notice her discomfort. She forces a calm expression, while inside, the fear of being found out grows.
Mark: (thinking) It sounds like betrayal… a broken promise or trust.
Mr. White: (nodding) Yeah, something hidden behind lies.
The group starts discussing the riddle, while Lisa remains silent, pretending to think. She doesn’t want to admit her guilt, so she goes along with the group’s guesses.
Lisa: (quietly) I think it’s betrayal too… it makes sense.
The others agree, and Sarah writes “betrayal” on the piece of paper. As soon as she does, the clock stops ticking, and with a soft click, the door to the next room opens.
Mark: (determined) That’s two down. Let’s keep going.
They step through the open door, knowing that more riddles—and more secrets—await them.
The Host: (mocking) Well done! You solved the second riddle too. But don’t you want to know who the real betrayer is?
The group freezes, eyes widening as they look at each other suspiciously. A wave of silence fills the room as they start to wonder if one of them holds a deeper secret than they’ve revealed. The tension builds as everyone exchanges nervous glances, the air growing thick with uncertainty.
Mr. White: (whispering) What does he mean by that?
David: (panicked) I already told you everything. I’m not hiding anything else!
Sarah: (nervous) Is it someone else?
Lisa shifts uncomfortably, her face pale. She knows what The Host is hinting at, but she stays silent, hoping the attention doesn’t fall on her. Her heart races, guilt creeping up on her as she tries to act calm.
For a few agonizing moments, no one speaks. They all look at each other, wondering who The Host could be talking about.
Mark: (tense) What is going on?
Suddenly, without warning, Lisa lets out a soft gasp. Before anyone can react, she vanishes into thin air, disappearing right before their eyes. A loud, blood-curdling scream echoes through the room, piercing the silence and sending a wave of panic through the group.
Emily: (screaming) Lisa! Where did she go?!
David: (frantically) This can’t be happening!
The group stands frozen in shock, their hearts pounding as they process what just happened. Lisa is gone, and all that’s left is her fading scream. Fear tightens around them, their minds racing with terror.
Suddenly, the mocking laughter of The Host surrounds them, echoing off the walls. It feels like it’s coming from everywhere at once, filling the room with a chilling presence.
