Episode 6: The Fourth Riddle and the Price of Betrayal
The atmosphere in the mansion is tense and heavy. The group is still reeling from Emily’s confession and the disappearance of Lisa. As they enter the next room, the air is thick with fear and anticipation. A new piece of paper with The Host’s handwriting lies on the table.
Sarah: (reading aloud) “In the dark, you have betrayed. A trust broken, a life decayed. The weight of guilt now haunts your mind. Reveal the truth that you left behind.”
Mark’s face goes pale as he hears the riddle. His anxiety is palpable. He looks at the group, his hands trembling.
Mark: (muttering) Oh no… This is about me.
The group turns their attention to Mark, realizing he is the one the riddle is pointing to.
David: (concerned) Mark, what’s happening? What do you know about this riddle?
Mark: (panicking) I… I don’t want to talk about it. I need to get out of here!
Mark starts to run towards the door, but finds it locked. He pounds on it, desperate to escape.
Emily: (shouting) Mark, you can’t run away! You have to tell us what’s going on!
Sarah: (pleading) Please, Mark! We need to know the truth!
The Host’s voice echoes through the room, adding to the tension.
The Host: (mocking) Running won’t save you. The truth will always find its way out. Confess now, or face the consequences.
Mark’s resolve crumbles. He turns to the group, his face filled with despair.
Mark: (defeated) Fine. I’ll tell you. But… it’s not easy.
The group gathers around Mark, urging him to continue.
Mark: (voice trembling) A few years ago, I had a business partner named Alex. We started a company together, but things went wrong. Alex found out about some illegal dealings I was involved in and threatened to go to the police. I couldn’t let that happen.
David: (shocked) You… you killed him?
Mark: (nodding, tears in his eyes) Not exactly. I sent some goons to scare him, to make him back off. I wanted to intimidate him so he wouldn’t go to the police. But that night, things went horribly wrong. The goons, acting in self-defense, ended up killing Alex with a knife.
The group is stunned into silence. Mark’s confession reveals the dark link between his betrayal and the violence David witnessed.
Sarah: (shocked) You sent those goons? David saw that night. That’s what the first riddle was about!
Emily: (angrily) So it was your fault Alex died!
Mark: (pleading) It was an accident! I never wanted him to die! I just wanted him scared enough to keep quiet.
The room is filled with heavy silence as Mark’s words sink in. The group is torn between shock and anger. They hope that revealing Mark’s secret will lead to their escape.
David: (hopeful) We’ve told the truth. The door should open now.
They all look anxiously at the door, but it remains firmly closed. The Host’s eerie laughter fills the room, mocking their efforts.
The Host: (laughing) Oh, you thought confessing would be enough? The truth isn’t always straightforward. Remember, the game isn’t over. Let me make it more interesting for you all.
The room begins to shift and change, the walls seemingly closing in. A new piece of paper appears with the words “Final Round” written on it.
The Host: (mockingly) Welcome to the final round. Each of you will face your greatest fears and deepest secrets. It’s going to be worse than anything you’ve experienced so far.
The group exchanges worried glances. The fear in their eyes is palpable as they realize that the next challenge will be even more intense than before.
Sarah: (whispering) What is he going to throw at us next?
Emily: (terrified) I don’t know, but it can’t be good.
Mark: (determined) We have to stay strong. We’ve come this far. We need to face whatever is coming next.
As they prepare to enter the final round, the dread and anxiety of the unknown hang heavily in the air. Each step forward is filled with trepidation as they brace themselves for the challenges yet to come.
To be continued…
