Episode 4: The Hidden Connection
The next day, Sana couldn’t focus. Her mind kept wandering back to the letter they had found at the clock tower. Who was “E”? And what was taken from their families long ago?
She paced back and forth in her small apartment, staring at the worn paper in her hand. She felt a mixture of curiosity and fear. The mystery was pulling her in deeper, and she wasn’t sure if she was ready for what they might find next.
A knock on the door startled her. She quickly stuffed the letter into her bag and opened the door to see Arham, his expression serious as ever.
“Ready to go?” he asked.
“Where are we going now?” Sana asked, crossing her arms.
Arham pulled out the notebook from his coat and flipped to a page with a map. “This letter mentioned something was taken. I think we need to visit an old family friend of mine. He might know more.”
Sana raised an eyebrow. “A family friend? Why didn’t you mention him before?”
Arham sighed. “Because I didn’t think he’d be involved. But now… I’m not so sure.”
They drove to the outskirts of town, where the houses were older, and the streets quieter. After a few twists and turns, they pulled up to a small, weathered house surrounded by overgrown bushes.
Sana felt uneasy. “You sure about this?”
Arham nodded, stepping out of the car. “He’s the only one left who might have some answers.”
They walked up to the door and knocked. After a few moments, an older man with graying hair and sharp eyes opened the door. He studied Arham for a second before his face softened.
“Arham. It’s been a long time,” the man said, stepping aside to let them in. His voice was gravelly, but there was warmth in it.
“This is Sana,” Arham introduced her quickly as they stepped inside. “We need to ask you about something… something my father and her father were involved in.”
The man’s eyes flickered with recognition, and he motioned for them to sit. “Your father and hers, huh? I knew this day would come.”
Sana’s heart raced. “What do you mean?”
The man leaned back in his chair, his eyes distant, as if recalling a memory long buried. “There was a time when your fathers worked together on something. A project. It wasn’t supposed to be dangerous, but things got complicated.”
Sana exchanged a glance with Arham. “Complicated how?”
The old man took a deep breath. “They discovered something—something valuable. But others wanted it too. That’s when they hid it. Whatever it was, they split it into pieces, each hiding part of it in different places.”
Sana’s head spun. “Wait, are you saying this has to do with what was stolen?”
The man nodded slowly. “Exactly. That letter you found, it’s a warning. Whoever wrote it knew about the split. They’re telling you to be careful because the truth… the truth isn’t what it seems.”
Arham leaned forward. “Do you know where the other pieces are?”
The man shook his head. “No, but your fathers left clues—clues hidden in places they trusted. The clock tower was just one. There will be more.”
Sana’s stomach tightened. “So, we’re supposed to just keep searching?”
The old man looked at them seriously. “Yes. But be careful. There are others looking for it too. And they won’t stop until they find it.”
Sana felt a chill run down her spine. “Who are these others?”
The man didn’t answer right away. His eyes darkened. “They’re not the kind of people you want to cross paths with.”
Arham stood up, determination in his eyes. “We have no choice. We need to find the rest of the pieces.”
The old man nodded but added a warning. “Just remember, once you start down this path, there’s no going back.”
Sana swallowed hard. She knew he was right. Whatever they had stumbled into, it was much bigger than they had realized. And now, there was no turning back.
As they left the house, Arham turned to her. “Are you still in?”
Sana hesitated for only a second before nodding. “I’m in. We have to see this through.”
Arham smiled slightly, his confidence renewed. “Then let’s find the next clue.”
They got back into the car, the weight of the mystery pressing down on them. They had come so far, and yet, the journey was just beginning. But one thing was clear: they weren’t alone in this. The clock was ticking, and whatever their fathers had hidden, it was now up to them to uncover it—before someone else did.
Lesson: Some truths are hidden for a reason. But when you decide to uncover them, be prepared for the dangers that come with it. Trust and caution must go hand in hand.
