Episode 8: The First Clue
The drive to Sana’s father’s old office was quiet, but their minds were racing with questions. The locket, the note, the mysterious warning—it was all connected, but how? They had to start piecing together the puzzle, and Sana hoped her father’s office would hold the answers.
They pulled up to the building, an old, brick structure tucked away in a quiet part of town. The place had been abandoned for years, but Sana still had the key. She had never returned after her father passed, but now, everything felt different. This was the start of something bigger.
“This place gives me the creeps,” Arham said, glancing around as they approached the front door. The overgrown bushes and broken windows didn’t help with the eerie vibe.
Sana nodded. “I haven’t been here since… well, since everything happened. I hope we find something.”
Inside, the office was just as they left it—dusty, forgotten, like time had frozen. Old papers lay scattered across the floor, and a thick layer of dust covered the desks. The faint smell of musty books filled the air, making the space feel like a relic of the past.
Arham shined a flashlight across the room. “Where do we start?”
Sana walked over to her father’s desk, her fingers brushing against the surface. “My dad used to keep everything important locked in this drawer.”
She reached for the bottom drawer, but it didn’t budge. “It’s locked,” she muttered, frustrated.
Arham knelt down, examining the lock. “Do you think the key from the locket could work?”
Sana hadn’t considered that. She pulled the small brass key from her pocket and handed it to Arham, who carefully slid it into the lock. With a soft click, the drawer opened.
Inside, there were old files, notebooks, and a small leather journal. Sana picked up the journal, her heart racing as she flipped through the pages. Most of it was filled with notes on her father’s work, but towards the back, she found something different—an entry that stood out.
Sana, if you’re reading this, it means you’ve found the locket. There’s something you need to know. We didn’t just stumble upon this secret—we were part of it. Your uncle and I were working on something dangerous, something bigger than us. We hid the truth to protect you. But now, you must find the rest. The answers are with Arham’s father. Together, you can finish what we started. Trust no one.
Sana’s hands trembled as she read the words. “My father knew this would happen. He knew we’d find the locket.”
Arham looked at her, his expression serious. “And he mentioned my father. They were in this together.”
Sana nodded, her mind racing. “But what were they hiding? And why is it so dangerous?”
Arham took the journal from her hands, his eyes scanning the entry. “It’s like they were involved in something—something they couldn’t control. But it doesn’t say what.”
Sana leaned back against the desk, overwhelmed. “They were hiding more than just a locket. They knew something that could get them killed.”
Arham looked around the room, his eyes narrowing. “We need to find more. If they left clues here, maybe there’s something else we’ve missed.”
They spent the next hour searching the office, going through files, old notes, and anything that looked remotely important. But nothing seemed to stand out—until Arham found a hidden compartment in the wall behind a bookshelf.
“Look at this,” he said, his voice low.
Sana hurried over, her eyes widening as Arham pulled back the bookshelf to reveal a small metal safe built into the wall.
“Do you think the key will work on this too?” Sana asked, her voice barely a whisper.
Arham hesitated. “Only one way to find out.”
He inserted the brass key into the safe’s lock, and with a twist, it opened. Inside was a single piece of paper, folded carefully and yellowed with age.
Sana unfolded it, her heart pounding. The paper was covered in strange symbols and numbers, along with a map—an old, hand-drawn map that seemed to lead to a location neither of them recognized.
“What is this?” Arham asked, staring at the paper.
Sana shook her head. “It looks like a code… and a map.”
Arham studied it closely. “This must be the next step. Whatever our fathers were hiding, it’s connected to this map.”
Sana’s stomach churned. The deeper they went, the more dangerous this mystery became. But she couldn’t turn back now. Their fathers had trusted them with this secret for a reason.
“We need to figure out where this leads,” Arham said, folding the map and slipping it into his pocket.
Sana nodded, her mind still processing everything. “But we have to be careful. Whoever is after us—they know we’re close.”
Arham’s jaw tightened. “Let’s find out what they were hiding before they catch up to us.”
As they left the office, the weight of the mystery grew heavier. The map held the next clue, but it also brought them closer to danger. Whatever their fathers had been involved in, it was bigger than they could have ever imagined.
Lesson: Sometimes, the search for truth leads you down dark paths, and uncovering the past may bring unexpected consequences. But the journey forward often begins with confronting what was left behind.
