Episode 12: Secrets in the Shadows
Sana and Arham sat in silence, the engine’s hum the only sound breaking the tension. As they drove away from the estate, Sana replayed the encounter with the mysterious man over and over in her mind. His cryptic words haunted her—what had their fathers been involved in?
“We can’t keep running forever,” Arham said, breaking the silence.
Sana nodded, glancing out the window. “I know. But what’s our next move? We can’t go back to the estate—not with him there.”
Arham’s jaw tightened. “We need more information. The answers are in the past, in whatever our fathers were working on. We have to find someone who can help us understand what we’re dealing with.”
Sana bit her lip. “But who? We barely know anything ourselves.”
Arham pulled out his phone, his fingers moving quickly as he searched for something. After a few moments, he stopped and looked at her.
“There’s one person who might know,” he said. “Sameer.”
Sana’s brows furrowed. “Sameer? Your father’s old colleague?”
Arham nodded. “He worked with both our fathers back then. If anyone knows what was really going on, it’s him.”
Sana felt a flicker of hope, but also a twinge of doubt. “Do you think he’ll tell us? He might not want to get involved.”
Arham’s expression darkened. “He’ll talk. He has to.”
The next morning, Arham and Sana drove to Sameer’s home. It was a modest house on the outskirts of the city, with a well-kept garden and a quiet, peaceful atmosphere—far removed from the chaos of the night before. As they approached the door, Sana felt her nerves rise.
Arham knocked firmly, and after a moment, the door opened to reveal Sameer, an older man with graying hair and tired eyes. His face lit up in surprise when he saw Arham.
“Arham! It’s been a long time,” Sameer said warmly, though there was a flicker of caution in his eyes. His gaze shifted to Sana, recognizing her instantly. “And you must be Sana. I haven’t seen you since you were a little girl.”
Sana smiled politely, but the weight of their visit pressed on her. “It’s nice to see you, Sameer Uncle. We need to talk to you about something important.”
Sameer’s expression shifted to one of concern. “Come inside.”
Sitting in Sameer’s living room, the tension was palpable. Sameer glanced between them, sensing that something was very wrong.
“I assume this isn’t just a social visit,” he said quietly. “What’s going on?”
Arham leaned forward, his voice serious. “It’s about our fathers. We found out they were involved in some kind of experiment, and now there are people trying to stop us from learning more. We need to know what they were doing, Sameer Uncle. You were there with them. What were they working on?”
Sameer’s face paled, and for a moment, he said nothing. The silence was heavy, filled with unspoken memories and secrets long buried. Finally, he spoke, his voice low and filled with regret.
“I was afraid this day would come,” he said. “Your fathers… they were brilliant men. But their work—it went too far.”
Sana’s heart raced. “What do you mean?”
Sameer sighed, rubbing his hands together as if trying to find the right words. “They were working on a project—something they called Project Control. It started out as a research experiment, something that was supposed to benefit society. But over time, it became something else—something dangerous.”
“Dangerous how?” Arham asked, his voice tense.
“They were trying to create a technology that could influence people’s minds—control their thoughts, their actions. It was meant to help in areas like medical treatment or rehabilitation. But it had the potential to be used for… other purposes.”
Sana felt a chill run down her spine. “Mind control?”
Sameer nodded slowly. “It sounds impossible, but they made progress. Too much progress. And others took notice—people with power, who wanted to use the technology for their own gain.”
Arham clenched his fists. “That’s why they were hiding everything. That’s why we’re in danger.”
Sameer looked at them, his eyes filled with sorrow. “Your fathers tried to stop it, to bury the project. But it was too late. The people who wanted that technology—they’re still out there. And they won’t let anyone stand in their way.”
Sana’s voice trembled. “Is that who came after us? That man at the estate?”
Sameer nodded grimly. “Most likely. They’ve been watching, waiting for anyone who might uncover the truth.”
Arham stood up, pacing the room. “So what do we do now? We can’t just stop.”
Sameer hesitated. “There’s a risk in continuing. But there might be one way to end this. Your fathers left behind a failsafe—something to destroy the project for good.”
Sana’s eyes widened. “What is it?”
Sameer looked at them seriously. “It’s a device. They hid it in a place no one would think to look. If you find it, you can stop them—once and for all.”
Arham exchanged a glance with Sana, determination in his eyes. “Where is it?”
Sameer paused, then said quietly, “It’s hidden in your father’s old laboratory. The one he used to take you to as a child.”
Sana’s heart skipped a beat. She remembered that place—an old, forgotten lab on the outskirts of town. Her father had taken her there a few times when she was younger, but she never understood what he was doing there.
“We’ll find it,” Arham said firmly. “And we’ll end this.”
Sameer looked at them, his expression full of both hope and fear. “Be careful. They’ll come for you again. And next time, they won’t just scare you—they’ll stop you.”
As they left Sameer’s house, the weight of what they had learned pressed down on them. Their fathers hadn’t just been scientists—they had been part of something far bigger, something that threatened everything.
“We need to get to that lab,” Sana said, her voice steady but filled with anxiety.
Arham nodded. “It’s our only chance.”
But as they drove toward the outskirts of town, neither of them could shake the feeling that they were being watched—that the shadows from the past were closing in.
Lesson: Sometimes, the truth is more dangerous than the lies. But standing up against the darkness, even when it feels overwhelming, is the only way forward.
Will Sana and Arham find the device and stop the dangerous technology? Or will the people hunting them catch up before they can? Stay tuned for Episode 13!
