The Proposal: Dil-e-Nadaan

Episode 10

Scene 1 – Dadi’s Room – Next Day

The entire family gathers in Dadi’s room. Kamal sits calmly with his phone. Dadi has a mischievous smile, and Aslam stands with crossed arms. Rayaan watches the scene with excitement, trying not to laugh. Kamal dials Sameer’s number and puts it on speaker.

Kamal: (calmly, as if nothing’s wrong)
“Sameer beta, humne aapka rishta accept kar liya hai. Aur hum chahte hain ke iss mahine hi rasam ho jaye. Aap apne parents ko lekar kal aa jayein.”
(Sameer, we have accepted your proposal, and we want to finalize everything this month. Bring your parents tomorrow.)

Sameer: (shocked, stammering)
“Jee? Ka…kal? Itni jaldi, Uncle?”
(What? Tomorrow? So soon, Uncle?)

Kamal: (calmly, pretending innocence)
“Haan beta. Aapki mother toh usi din nikah ka schedule bana rahi thi. Humne toh phir bhi—”
(Yes, son. Your mother was ready for the nikah that day itself. We still held back—)

Sameer: (panicking and cutting Kamal off)
“Ma-mag… Woh toh…”
(Bu-but… that was…)

Dadi snatches the phone with a victorious smirk.

Dadi: (sternly but with mischief)
“Beta Sameer, kya hua? Jo parents us din laaye the, ab unki dates available nahi hain kya?”
(What happened, Sameer? Are those parents you brought that day suddenly unavailable now?)

Sameer: (completely flustered, stammering)
“Da… Da… Dadi?”
(Da…Da…Dadi?)

Dadi: (raising her eyebrow, enjoying the moment)
“G beta. Dadi. Kya hua? Kyun itna hakla rahe ho?”
(Yes, son. Dadi. What happened? Why are you stammering so much?)

Sameer: (sweating bullets, voice trembling)
“Da-Da-Dadi… Woh sab… Woh toh… Zayaan ka plan tha! Main innocent hoon, kasam se! Meri toh shaadi hone waali hai, please mujhe maaf kar dijiye!”
(Da-Da-Dadi… All of that… That was Zayaan’s plan! I’m innocent, I swear! I’m about to get married; please forgive me!)

Dadi: (dramatically, in a firm tone)
“Nahi beta. Ab toh tumhe Anaya se shaadi karni hogi. Do apne parents ka number. Unko bhi toh pata chale tum kis kis ko rishton ke jhanso mein phansate phirte ho.”
(No, son. Now you’ll have to marry Anaya. Give me your parents’ number. They also deserve to know how you’ve been fooling people with fake proposals.)

Sameer: (almost crying, pleading)
“Nahi, nahi, Dadi! Aapko meri hone wali shaadi todwani hai kya? Main apni biwi ko pasand karta hoon! Usse yeh pata chal gaya toh sab kuch khatam ho jayega!”
(No, no, Dadi! Do you want to ruin my wedding? I love my fiancée! If she finds out, everything will be destroyed!)

Rayaan muffles his laughter, biting his lips as Dadi continues her drama.

Dadi: (mocking sternness)
“Toh jo dhoka tumne hume diya uska kya? Hain? Tumne socha tha ke hum samjhenge nahi?”
(And what about the betrayal you gave us? Did you think we wouldn’t understand?)

Sameer: (pleading like a child)
“Dadi, main galti maan raha hoon. Aap jo kahengi main karunga! Par please, mere parents ko call na karein. Meri shaadi toot jayegi!”
(Dadi, I admit my mistake. I’ll do whatever you say! Just please don’t call my parents. My wedding will be ruined!)

The entire family exchanges amused glances while Kamal takes the phone back with a smile.

Kamal: (with a mischievous grin)
“Dekho beta, humare paas ek plan hai…”
(Listen, son, we have a plan…)

Sameer’s face seems to turn pale on the other side of the phone as Kamal explains the “plan.”

Sameer: (mumbling to himself in horror)
“Ye Zayaan ka plan tha ya mera dushman? Mujhe hi kyun phansa diya? Main toh abhi se zinda murda ho gaya hoon!”
(Was this Zayaan’s plan or my enemy’s? Why did they trap me? I feel like a dead man already!)

The family bursts into muffled laughter, trying to contain themselves.

Rayaan: (whispering to Dadi)
“Dadi, Sameer bhai ki toh hawa tight ho gayi!”
(Dadi, Sameer bhai is totally panicking!)

Dadi: (smiling proudly)
“Aur abhi toh picture shuru hui hai, beta.”
(And this is just the beginning, my dear.)

Aslam: (laughing while shaking his head)
“Ami, aap bhi na! Ye plans sirf aapke dimaag mein hi aa sakte hain.”
(Mom, only you can come up with such plans!)

Dadi: (grinning mischievously)
“Kya karein beta, dimaag bhi toh zinda hai.”
(What can I do, son? My mind is still sharp!)

The family finally breaks into laughter as the call ends, leaving Sameer sweating bullets on the other side.

Scene fades out with the family’s laughter echoing through the room.

Scene 2 – Anaya’s Room – Afternoon

After lunch, Kamal and Shahana quietly approach Anaya’s room. Shahana knocks softly before entering. Anaya, sitting on her bed with a notebook in her hands, looks up and smiles at them. Kamal and Shahana exchange a glance and sit down on the sofa in her room. There is warmth, care, and a hint of hesitation in the air.

Shahana: (gently)
“Beta, hum tumse ek baat karne aaye hain. Woh… Zayaan ke rishtay ke baare mein.”
(Dear, we’ve come to talk to you about something… about Zayaan’s proposal.)

Anaya pauses for a moment, her fingers unconsciously fiddling with the notebook. She lowers her gaze, but her expression remains calm.

Kamal: (in a soft, caring tone)
“Dekho, Anaya. Hum kabhi tumpe koi zabardasti nahi karenge. Tum hamari beti ho, aur tumhare khushi se zyada humein kuch bhi pyara nahi. Bas yeh jaanna chahte hain ke tumhari soch kya hai.”
(Listen, Anaya. We would never force you into anything. You are our daughter, and nothing is more important to us than your happiness. We just want to know what you think.)

Anaya looks up briefly, her eyes reflecting love and gratitude for her parents, before looking away again.

Anaya: (softly but clearly)
“Mujhe pata hai ke aap dono mere liye sirf acha hi sochte hain. Zayaan…” (pausing, as if choosing her words carefully) “…ek acha insaan hain. Lekin main apne jazbat se ziada aapke faislay ko mazhboot samajhti hoon.”
(I know that both of you always think the best for me. Zayaan… (pausing) …is a good person. But I trust your decision more than my own feelings.)

Shahana reaches out and gently holds Anaya’s hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.

Shahana: (lovingly)
“Anaya beta, tumhari zindagi hai yeh. Tumhari khushi se hi humari khushi judi hai. Zayaan kaisa bhi ho, rishta tabhi banta hai jab dono ek dosre ko samajhte ho aur ek dosre ka saath dene ke liye tayyar ho.”
(Anaya, dear, this is your life. Our happiness is tied to yours. No matter how good Zayaan is, a relationship works only when both people understand and support each other.)

Kamal: (smiling softly)
“Tum humesha se samajhdaar aur mazboot rahi ho, Anaya. Hum sirf yeh chahte hain ke tum hamesha khush raho, chahe faisla koi bhi ho.”
(You have always been mature and strong, Anaya. We only want you to stay happy, no matter what the decision is.)

Anaya feels the love and care in their words, her eyes glisten with unshed tears. She takes a moment to compose herself, then looks up at them with a soft smile.

Anaya: (with respect and trust)
“Aap dono ne mujhe hamesha samjha hai, mujhe hamesha pyaar diya hai. Aap ka jo faisla hoga mujhe manzoor hai.”
(You both have always understood me and loved me unconditionally. Whatever decision you make, I will accept it.)

Shahana’s eyes fill with pride and affection. She gently cups Anaya’s face.

Shahana: (emotionally)
“Humesha yahi dua ki hai ke tum jaisi beti har maa ko mile.”
(I’ve always prayed that every mother gets a daughter like you.)

Kamal smiles proudly, placing his hand affectionately on Anaya’s head.

Kamal: (lovingly)
“Tum hamari beti nahi, hamari sabse badi taqat ho, Anaya. Tumhare jaisi larki kisi ke bhi ghar ko roshan kar degi.”
(You are not just our daughter; you are our greatest strength, Anaya. A girl like you can brighten any home.)

Anaya smiles through her emotions, her heart full of love and respect for her parents. Shahana and Kamal stand up to leave the room, but before they exit, Shahana turns back.

Shahana: (softly)
“Beta, agar kabhi tumhe lagay ke kuch kehna hai… toh humein zaroor batana. Tumhari soch humare liye bohot zaroori hai.”
(Dear, if you ever feel like sharing anything… please tell us. Your thoughts matter to us a lot.)

Anaya: (smiling warmly)
“Jee Ammi.”
(Yes, Mom.)

Kamal and Shahana leave the room, their hearts content, while Anaya sits quietly, lost in thought. The room feels heavy with unspoken emotions, but there is peace in her acceptance.

Scene 3 – Late Afternoon – Zayaan and Saad on a Call

(Zayaan paces around in his room, phone pressed to his ear as he talks to Saad. Saad listens with a sarcastic expression, clearly enjoying the situation as it unfolds.)

Zayaan: (sounding guilty and frustrated)
“Yaar Saad, mujhe aaj pehli dafa mehsoos ho raha hai ke maine apne words se Anaya ko bohat hurt kiya hai.”
(Saad, for the first time, I feel like I’ve really hurt Anaya with my words.)

Saad: (smirking sarcastically, leaning back)
“Achaa? Tumhein yeh kab mehsoos ho gaya?”
(Oh really? And when did this realization hit you?)

Zayaan, lost in his thoughts, doesn’t even catch Saad’s sarcasm.

Zayaan: (absentmindedly)
“Haan yaar, pata nahi kyun bohat bura mehsoos ho raha hai. Bechari ko kitna bura laga hoga. Kya soch rahi hogi wo mere baare mein…”
(Yeah, man. I don’t know why, but I feel really bad. Poor girl, she must be thinking so badly about me…)

Saad: (raising an eyebrow, smirking wider)
“Achaaa… bechari? Lagta hai tum usko pasand karne lage ho!”
(Oh… “poor girl”? Seems like you’ve started liking her!)

Zayaan: (still lost, sighs deeply)
“Haan yaar… Har jaga wohi dikhti hai. Woh kitni perfect hai.”
(Yeah, man… I see her everywhere. She’s so perfect.)

There’s a sudden pause. Zayaan freezes mid-sentence as it hits him what he just said. Saad bursts out laughing on the other end.

Saad: (laughing hysterically)
“Haha! Bhai, maine toh pehle hi kaha tha ke dadi ke kehne pe sir jhuka lo, par tum toh akkad gaye thay! Ab kya hua?!”
(I told you earlier to bow your head like dadi said, but you were being stubborn! What happened now?)

Zayaan’s face turns red with embarrassment, finally realizing the sarcasm, but before he can respond, Saad’s phone buzzes.

Saad: (chuckling to himself, checking his phone)
“Aray yaar, Sameer ka call aa raha hai. Le loon? Ya tum apne perfect feelings ka aur izhaar karna chahte ho?”
(Hey man, Sameer is calling. Should I take it? Or do you want to express more of your perfect feelings?)

Zayaan: (irritated, brushing off Saad’s teasing)
“Haaan, le lo. Usko bhi line pe lao. Dekhte hain kya natak hai uska.”
(Yeah, take it. Put him on the line too. Let’s see what drama he has now.)

Saad, still smirking, accepts the call and puts Sameer on conference call

Sameer: (panicking, almost shouting)
“Yaar garbar ho gayi hai!”
(Guys, something terrible has happened!)

Saad: (shocked again, eyes wide)
“Kya garbar? Ab kya kiya tumne?”
(What terrible? What did you do now?)

Sameer: (frantically)
“Yaar meri hone wali biwi ke parents aur mere parents mein kisi rasam pe larayi ho gayi hai… Aur unhone rishta tod diya!”
(My fiancée’s parents and my parents fought over some ritual… and they broke the engagement!)

Zayaan & Saad: (staring at the phone, simultaneously shocked)
“Kyaaa?!”
(What?!)

Saad: (still processing, stunned)
“Yeh kya keh rahe ho? Tumhari hone wali biwi toh tumhe pasand karti thi na? Uska kya?”
(What are you saying? Didn’t your fiancée like you? What about her?)

Sameer: (dramatically)
“Yaar woh bhi badal gayi! Kehti hai mujh se shaadi nahi karegi!”
(Man, she changed too! She says she won’t marry me now!)

Saad: (completely shocked, mutters under his breath)
“Yeh ho kya raha hai?”
(What is even happening?)

Sameer: (innocently, but wickedly)
“Soch raha hoon Anaya ka rishta accept kar loon. Waise bhi woh meri hone wali biwi se zyada achi hai.”
(I’m thinking I’ll accept Anaya’s proposal. She’s better than my fiancée anyway.)

Zayaan glares at the phone, his temper rising.

Zayaan: (angrily)
“Sameer! Yeh kya bakwas kar rahe ho?! Ek gayi toh doosri?! Tumhare liye shaadi koi grocery shopping hai kya?!”
*(Sameer! What nonsense are you saying?! One leaves, so you move to the next?! Is marriage like grocery shopping for you?!)

Sameer: (playfully)
“Ismein galat kya hai? Kamaal Uncle toh mujhe pasand karte hain.”
(What’s wrong in that? Kamal Uncle already likes me.)

Saad: (staring at the phone in disbelief, voice shaky)
“Sameer… tu serious hai?! zara sambhal ke. Zayaan ke emotions develop ho rahe hain Anaya ke liye.”
(Sameer… are you serious? Careful, Zayaan is starting to develop feelings for Anaya)

Sameer: (laughing wickedly)
“Ho rahe hain, hoye toh nahi. Aur waise bhi, Anaya ne bhi toh kaha hai ke wo Zayaan se shaadi nahi karna chahti. Phir tum kyun mare ja rahe ho?”
(“Starting”? They haven’t happened yet! And anyway, Anaya said herself she doesn’t want to marry Zayaan. So why are you getting worked up?)

Zayaan: (furious)
“Main sab ko sach bata dunga!”
(I’ll tell everyone the truth!)

Sameer: (laughing hysterically, cutting him off)
“Kya batau ge? Ke yeh sab tumhara plan tha? Tum shaadi nahi karna chahte the? Aur sab poochengay ke ab kyun bata rahe ho? Kya kahoge?”
(What will you say? That this was all your plan? You didn’t want to get married? And when everyone asks why you’re confessing now, what will you say?)

Zayaan opens his mouth to argue but can’t find the words. Saad looks completely dumbfounded.

Sameer: (mockingly)
“Rehne do bhai, jo ho raha hai hone do. Mujhe Anaya pasand hai. Main toh chala Kamaal Uncle ko impress karne.”
(Let it be, bro. Let whatever is happening, happen. I like Anaya. I’m off to impress Kamal Uncle.)

Zayaan: (fuming)
“Sameer! Tum itne ghatiya nikloge, maine socha bhi nahi tha!”
(Sameer! I never thought you could stoop so low!)

Sameer: (laughing)
“Toh ab soch lo, bhai!”
(Well, think about it now, bro!)

Before Zayaan can shout back, Sameer hangs up the call. Saad, completely stunned, stares at his phone.

Saad: (muttering in shock)
“Yaar… yeh banda toh level ka ghatiya nikla.”
(Man… this guy turned out to be next-level terrible.)

Scene 4: Saad Confronts Sameer After the Shocking News

(Saad is still in shock after hearing Sameer’s decision to marry Anaya. The conference call ends, and Saad quickly dials Sameer’s number to confront him.)

Saad: (angrily, voice raised)
“Sameer, yeh kya keh raha hai tu? Anaya se shaadi karne ka soch raha hai, jab Zayaan ne usse pasand karna shuru kar diya hai? Tu pagal ho gaya hai?”
(Sameer, what are you saying? You’re thinking of marrying Anaya when Zayaan has started liking her? Have you gone mad?)

Sameer: (panicking, voice shaky)
“Yaar Saad, humara bhanda phoot gaya hai! Sabko humara plan pata chal gaya hai! Sabko pata hai ki rishta fake tha!”
(Yaar Saad, our cover’s blown! Everyone knows about our plan! They know the engagement was fake!)

Saad: (shocked, speechless for a second, then angrily)
Kya?! Sabko pata chal gaya? Phir tu kaise Anaya se shaadi ki baat kar raha tha? Dimag kaam kar raha hai ya sab kuch miss ho gaya?”
(What?! Everyone knows? Then how the hell are you talking about marrying Anaya? Is your brain working or has everything just gone wrong?)

Sameer: (defensive, sounding a bit defeated)
“Yaar, Dadi ne bola tha ye sab kehne ko. Unka plan hai ki Zayaan ko itna push kiya jaye ke ab wo khud Anaya se shaadi ka bole!”
(Yaar, Dadi told me to say all this. It’s her plan to push Zayaan so much that now he has to confess his feelings and ask for Anaya’s hand himself!)

Saad: (laughs loudly, totally enjoying the situation)
Kya timing hai! Abhi Zayaan yeh bol raha tha ke usko Anaya pasand aane lagi hai, aur ab yeh Dadi ka plan! Yeh toh comedy ho gayi hai!”
(What timing! Just now, Zayaan was saying he started liking Anaya, and now it’s all part of Dadi’s plan! This is turning into comedy!)

Sameer: (genuinely embarrassed but still trying to explain)
“Haaan bhai, mujhe bohat bura lag raha hai Zayaan ko yeh sab bol ke, lekin Dadi… agar maine yeh nahi kiya, toh wo mere ghar walon ko phone karke sab bata degi, aur phir meri shaadi ka kya hoga?”
(Yeah, bro, I feel really bad for Zayaan, but Dadi… if I don’t do this, she’ll call my family and tell them everything, and then what will happen to my marriage?)

Saad: (laughing uncontrollably, thoroughly enjoying the situation)
“Yaar yeh toh ek dum mazedaar ho gaya!
(Yaar, this is turning into absolute fun!)

Sameer: (hearing Saad’s laughter, he feels the pressure building up)
“Tu itna q has raha hai? Dadi ne kaha hai ki wo tujhe bhi phone kareingi, tere ghar walon ko bhi batane ki dhamki de rahi thi!”
(Why the hell are you laughing so much? Dadi said she’s going to call you too, and threaten to tell your family as well!)

Saad: (stops laughing suddenly, his face falls in shock and fear)
Kya?! Mere ghar wale?!
(What?! My family?!)

Sameer: (grinning mischievously, almost teasing)
“Haaan, tayar ho jaa! Dadi ki hawa ka asra sab par padega!”
(Yeah, get ready! Dadi’s influence will get to everyone!)

Saad: (mocking, but also feeling the pressure)
“Yaar, Zayaan ke bachay ne kahan phasa diya mujhe, ab yeh sab Dadi ke haath mein!”
(*Man, that Zayaan kid has gotten me stuck in all this, and now it’s all in Dadi’s hands!)

Sameer: (laughs a little nervously but still feeling the pressure too)
“Ab hass… jo hona hai woh ho jaayega! Ab hum sab ko Dadi ki game ka shikar banna hai!”
(*Laugh it off… whatever’s going to happen will happen! Now we’re all going to be victims of Dadi’s game!)

(Saad is still processing the chaos and the shock, while Sameer nervously laughs, realizing that he’s caught up in a web of Dadi’s making. Both are in a mess, but can’t help but enjoy the craziness of the situation.)
