Episode 3: A Hope That Faded
Areeba sat alone in her room, staring at the ceiling, lost in thought. The days had become a cycle of waiting, disappointment, and silent tears. Rayyan’s absence had become a part of her life, and no matter how much she tried to reach him, he only pushed her further away. But then, a miracle happened—one that filled her empty heart with hope.
She was pregnant.
Tears of happiness streamed down her face as she held the pregnancy test in her trembling hands. For the first time in months, she felt like she had a reason to smile. Maybe this child would bring Rayyan back to her. Maybe, just maybe, he would realize what he was losing and come back to her with love.
She eagerly waited for him to return home that night. When he finally walked in, When she told him the news, he was happy and started taking care of her. But there was one thing that never changed—he never accompanied her to any doctor visits. She ignored it, hoping his love would be enough.
One night, as they sat in their room, Rayyan suddenly expressed his wish again. “I want to marry Maha,” he said, his voice calm, as if he were discussing the weather. He started explaining how they would all live together, painting a picture of a life that Areeba had no place in.
For a moment, Areeba felt everything around her blur, her body going numb. A blackout. But then, reality hit her like a storm. She took a deep breath and looked him in the eye. “If you want to marry her, then do it. Just do it,” she said, her voice steady despite the storm inside her. “But I will not live with you. I will take my baby and go from your life.”
Rayyan’s face paled with fear. “No, no! You cannot go. You cannot take my baby away from me.”
Areeba let out a hollow laugh. “Why not? I can’t live with you like this. You can live with Maha and have more babies with her.”
Rayyan looked away for a moment before muttering the truth that shook Areeba to her core. “Maha… she has some medical condition. She can’t have children.”
Areeba’s heart sank. So this was why he had been taking care of her. It was all fake. A cruel, calculated lie.
Her voice was cold now. “Then marry her. Once you do, I will leave. I can’t live like this.”
After that night, Rayyan stopped talking to her. His cold shoulder was worse than ever. He continued talking to Maha in front of her, as if Areeba no longer existed. And so, she spent her entire pregnancy in pain, crying silently while the man she loved ignored her completely.
Months passed, and finally, the day arrived. Areeba went into labor, gripping the hospital bed, crying in pain. She searched the room for Rayyan, hoping he would hold her hand, comfort her.
After hours of pain, she gave birth. A little boy. But fate was cruel.
Her baby was born with complications, and the doctors’ faces were grim.
“We’ll do our best,” they assured her, but their voices lacked confidence.
Areeba held her fragile child close, tears falling onto his tiny face. She prayed, begged, pleaded with God to save him. But twenty days later, he was gone.
Her heart broke into a million pieces. She had lost the only hope she had left.
At the funeral, she stood like a statue, numb and empty. Rayyan finally stood beside her, for the first time in months. He held her hand, his grip firm, and whispered, “I won’t talk to her again. I promise.”
She turned to look at him, searching his face for sincerity.
She wanted to believe him. She desperately wanted to hold onto any hope that remained.
But deep down, she already knew.
Like all his promises, this one would break too.
