Chand Ki Roshni (The Moonlight’s Glow)

Episode 7: Rishta Ki Baat

Scene 1: Morning at Ali’s Home

(Ali is sitting at the breakfast table, sipping tea. His mom, Mrs. Zubeda, is in the kitchen, busy preparing breakfast but with a smile on her face, clearly excited about something. She picks up the phone and dials Sara’s mom, Mrs. Razia. Ali notices and raises an eyebrow, realizing what she’s about to do. Mrs. Zubeda waits as the phone rings, and Mrs. Razia answers.)

Mrs. Razia (curious, but polite):
“Assalam-o-Alaikum. Kaun bol raha hai?”
“Assalam-o-Alaikum, who is speaking?”

Mrs. Zubeda (in a warm and friendly tone):
“Wa-Alaikum-Salaam! Main Zubeda bol rahi hoon, Ali ki walida. Kia mein Sara ki walida se baat kar rahi hoon?”
“Wa-Alaikum-Salaam! This is Zubeda, Ali’s mother. Am I speaking to Sara’s mother?”

Mrs. Razia (surprised but smiling):
“Jee, mein Sara ki walida hoon. Aap kaisi hain? Aaj call kaise ki?”
“Yes, I’m Sara’s mother. How are you? What brings this call today?”

Mrs. Zubeda (with excitement but composed):
“Alhamdulillah, theek hoon. Darasal, ek khaas baat discuss karni thi. Hamain aapki beti Sara pasand aayi hai, aur hum uske liye rishta lana chahte hain.”
“Alhamdulillah, I’m well. Actually, I wanted to discuss something important. We likes your daughter Sara, and we’d like to bring a proposal for her.”

Mrs. Razia (pleasantly surprised, but trying to stay calm):
“SubhanAllah! Yeh toh achi baat hai, magar… yeh sab itna achanak?”
“SubhanAllah! That’s wonderful, but… this is all so sudden?”

Mrs. Zubeda (smiling):
“Haan, humne Sara ko Saba ki mangni mein dekha tha, tab se mujhe wo bohat pasand aayi thi. Aapki beti mein bohat sharafat aur nazakat nazar aayi, isi liye hum rishta lana chahte hain.”
“Yes, we saw Sara at Saba’s engagement, and since then, I’ve liked her very much. Your daughter seemed so graceful and polite, that’s why we’d like to bring this proposal.”

Mrs. Razia (trying to hide her excitement):
“Jee, jee, ye toh bohat izzat ki baat hai. Lekin, agar aap mujhe shaam tak ka waqt dein, mere husband jab aayein ge toh mein unse baat karke aapko confirm karti hoon.”
“Yes, yes, this is a matter of great respect. But if you could give me time until the evening, when my husband comes home, I’ll discuss it with him and let you know.”

Mrs. Zubeda (understanding):
“Bilkul, shaam tak ka intezaar kar lete hain. Aap aram se baat karke batayein. Hum yeh rishte ko le kar bohat khush hain.”
“Of course, we’ll wait until the evening. Take your time to discuss it. We’re very happy about this proposal.”

Mrs. Razia (with warmth):
“InshaAllah, mein shaam ko aapko call karoon gi. Bahut shukriya, Zubeda Begum, aapne humein itni izzat di.”
“InshaAllah, I’ll call you in the evening. Thank you so much, Mrs. Zubeda, for honoring us with this proposal.”

Mrs. Zubeda (smiling):
“Shukriya ki koi zaroorat nahi. Hum dono families ko khushi honi chahiye. Phir shaam ko intezaar karoon gi.”
“There’s no need for thanks. It’s about the happiness of both families. I’ll wait for your call in the evening.”

Mrs. Razia:
“Ji bilkul. Allah hafiz!”
“Yes, definitely. Allah Hafiz!”

Mrs. Zubeda:
“Allah Hafiz!”
“Allah Hafiz!”

(They both hang up, smiling to themselves, with anticipation building for the evening’s conversation.)

(Dono phone rakh deti hain, dono ke chehron par muskurahat hai, aur shaam ke intezaar mein dono ke dil mein umeed jag rahi hai.)

Scene 2: Afternoon at Sara’s House

(Sara has just returned from college, sitting on her bed looking tired. Suddenly, Zoya bursts into the room, practically running, with a mischievous grin on her face.)

Zoya (excitedly, out of breath):
“Arey, apa! Tumne kuch suna?”

Sara (tired, raising an eyebrow):
“Nahi, ab mujhe kya sunna tha?”
(No, what was I supposed to hear now?)

Zoya (teasing, leaning closer):
“Pata hai, ami abhi baba se phone par tumse related kuch baat kar rahi thi!”
(You know, mom was just talking to dad on the phone about something related to you!)

Sara (surprised, sitting up straight):
“Mujhse? Kya baat kar rahi thi?”
(About me? What were they talking about?)

Zoya (grinning, stretching the suspense):
“Badi jaldi hai! Shaam ko dinner par bataoongi. Abhi sabar karo!”
(Oh, someone’s in a hurry! I’ll tell you at dinner. Be patient for now!)

Sara (getting irritated, narrowing her eyes):
“Zoya, tumhara phir shuru hogaya! Rukh jao, abhi batati hoon!”
(Zoya, you’ve started again! Just wait, I’ll get you now!)

(Sara playfully gets up, pretending to chase Zoya, but Zoya runs out of the room laughing.)

Zoya (running away, teasingly calling out):
“Sabar karo, apa! Sabar ka phal meetha hota hai!”
(Be patient, sis! Patience brings sweet rewards!)

(Sara shakes her head, laughing despite herself, and sits back down on her bed.)

Scene 3: Afternoon in Ali’s Office

(Ali and Danish are sitting in Ali’s office, both looking relaxed. Ali leans back in his chair, looking slightly frustrated but also excited.)

Ali:
“Subha, ami ne Sara ki ami se baat ki hai. Unhone shaam tak ka waqt manga hai.”
(This morning, Mom talked to Sara’s mom. They asked for time until the evening.)

Danish (smiling):
“Bhahi, achi baat hai! InshaAllah, sab behtar hoga. Tum toh ab shaadi ki tayyari karo!”
(Bro, that’s great news! God willing, everything will be fine. You should start preparing for the wedding!)

Ali (frowning):
“Par yaar, mujhe toh pehle Sara ko khud batana tha. Usse baat karni thi… lekin Zoya ki bachi!”
(But, dude, I wanted to tell Sara myself first. I needed to talk to her… but that Zoya!)

Danish (laughing):
“Ali, abhi jo ho raha hai, hone do.
(Ali, just let things happen as they are)

Ali (mocking a serious tone):
“Yar! Zoya ne toh mera pora proposal hijack kiya tha! Aaj wo mere plan ka plot twist ban gayi!”
(Yar! Zoya just hijacks my proposal! She became the plot twist in my plan today!)

Danish (chuckling):
“Tum fiar na karo! tumhari mulaqat ka arrangement mein karta hoon.”
(Dont worry!, I’ll arrange you meeting)

Ali (concerned):
“Par agar Zoya phir se beech mein agayi toh?”
(But what if Zoya comes in between again?)

Danish (laughing):
“Arey, tum itna q darte ho Zoya se? Wo toh bas tumhe tease karti hai!”
(Why are you so scared of Zoya? She just teases you!)

Ali (angrily):
“Haan haan, tease! Bhai, wo terrorist hai poori!”
(Yeah, yeah, tease! Dude, she’s a total terrorist!)

Danish (laughing out loud):
“Tum tension na lo. Mein setting karta hoon Zoya ki bhi. I will make sure she stays away from both of you!”
(Don’t worry. I’ll sort out Zoya too. I’ll make sure she stays away from both of you!)

Ali (excitedly):
“Kya tum usko kidnap karne wale ho?”
(Are you going to kidnap her?)

Danish (laughing again at Ali’s excited face):
“Nahi bhai, chill kar bhai!”
(No, man, chill out!)

(Ali shakes his head, trying to contain his laughter, and they both continue discussing their plans, with Ali trying to stay focused amidst the chaos that Zoya brings.)

Scene 4: Sara’s Home – Dinner Table

(The dinner table is set with delicious food, and Sara is sitting across from her parents, looking slightly distracted. Her mom, Razia, glances at her with a knowing smile.)

Razia (excitedly):
“Sara, ek rishta aya hai tumhare liye. Kal wo log aana chahte hain.”
(Sara, a proposal has come for you. They want to come tomorrow.)

(Sara looks up, surprised. She stares at her mom for a moment, her mind racing. She doesn’t say anything initially.)

Razia (encouragingly):
“Toh kya khayal hai tumhara? Tumhe kuch nahi kehna?”
(So, what do you think? Shouldn’t you say something?)

Sara (finally responding):
“Per mom, mein abhi age parhna chahti hon aur engineer ki job bhi karna chahti hon.”
(But mom, I want to continue my studies and pursue a job as an engineer.)

(Razia looks thoughtful for a moment, unsure how to respond. Her father, who has been listening quietly, chimes in.)

Father:
“Bhai, humari beti bohot layak hai. Agar wo age parhna chahti hai aur job karna chahti hai, toh humein uska sath dena chahiye.”
(Dear, our daughter is very capable. If she wants to continue her studies and work, we should support her.)

Razia (nodding):
“Haaan haaan, aap sahi keh rahe hain. Lekin milne mein kiya buraai hai? Ache log hain, unhe humari Sara pasand hai.”
(Yes, yes, you’re right. But what’s wrong with meeting? They are good people, and they like our Sara.)

Father (smirking):
“Bhai, hamari beti hai, usko kaun pasand nahi karega?”
(Dear, she’s our daughter; who wouldn’t like her?)

Razia (teasingly):
“Aap bhi har waqt mazak sochte hain! Lekin seriously, unhe ane do. Milne do, hum Sara ki demands bhi unke samne rakh denge.”
(You always joke! But on a serious note, let them come. We’ll present Sara’s demands to them too.)

(The father thinks for a moment, then nods.)

Father:
“Haaan, sahi hai. Phir tum unko kal shaam dinner per invite karlo.”
(Yes, that’s right. Then you invite them over for dinner tomorrow evening.)

Razia:
“Jee, behtar!”
(Yes, that sounds good!)

(Meanwhile, Sara sits quietly, feeling shy and embarrassed about the sudden proposal talk. Zoya sitting besides her with a playful smile, sensing the opportunity to tease her sister.)

Zoya (whispering):
“Raja ki ayegi baarat, rangili hogi raat, magan mein nachongi!”
(The king’s procession will come, the night will be colorful, and I will dance joyfully!)

(Sara, feeling a rush of embarrassment, playfully pushes Zoya and elbows her in the stomach.)

Zoya (screaming in surprise):
“Ouch! Kya kar rahi ho?”
(Ouch! What are you doing?)

Razia (looking concerned):
“Kya hua? Tum dono!”
(What happened? You two!)

Zoya (grinning and playfully):
“Kuch nahi, he he he!”
(Nothing, he he he!)

(Sara rolls her eyes, unable to hide her smile, and the room fills with laughter, showcasing the loving bond between the sisters.)
