Episode 4: Into the Darkness
Scene 1: The Aftermath
The sun was just beginning to rise, casting a faint, grey light over the city, but Rohan felt no sense of relief. He stood outside the old, abandoned building where the Silent Shadow had vanished the night before, staring at the entrance as if the killer might suddenly reappear.
His phone buzzed in his pocket, breaking his thoughts. It was Officer Karan.
“Sir, we’ve finished at the safe house,” Karan’s voice was heavy. “The forensic team has taken Maya’s body. No new evidence—just like the other victims.”
Rohan clenched his jaw, fighting back the frustration bubbling inside him. “I’m coming back. Meet me at the station.”
As he drove back, Rohan’s mind replayed the events of the previous night. The chase. Maya’s death. The Silent Shadow slipping away once again. He had lost his only lead, and now he was back to square one—but this wasn’t over. Not yet.
Scene 2: New Theories
Back at the station, the air was thick with tension. Rohan sat at his desk, running his hand through his hair in frustration. Karan entered, looking just as exhausted as Rohan felt.
“We need to rethink this,” Rohan said, breaking the silence. “This killer, he’s not just picking random victims. He knew Maya. He knew how to get to her before we could.”
Karan nodded. “But we’ve checked everything. There’s no obvious connection between the victims. No shared workplaces, no friends in common. They didn’t even live near each other.”
Rohan leaned back, staring at the ceiling. “It’s something deeper. Something we’re not seeing. He’s taunting us, leaving those coins as clues…”
Karan looked puzzled. “You think the coins mean more than just a mark?”
“I’m sure of it,” Rohan said firmly. “The jagged edge on the coin—it’s not a mistake. The killer is trying to send us a message. But why?”
Karan shifted in his seat. “We could re-interview the families of the victims. Maybe there’s something they forgot to tell us.”
Rohan nodded. “Do that. We’ve missed something, and we need to find it fast.”
Scene 3: A New Lead
Just as Karan was about to leave, a knock on the office door interrupted them. It was kavita, the station’s tech expert.
“Sir, I’ve been digging through some old files,” Kavita said, stepping into the room. “There’s something you should see.”
Rohan and Karan exchanged a glance. “What is it?” Rohan asked.
Kavita placed a file on the desk. “A few years ago, there was a series of unsolved murders with a similar MO. Young women found dead, no connection between the victims, no obvious cause of death, but… there were coins left at each scene.”
Rohan’s eyes widened. “Coins? How come we didn’t know about this?”
Kavita shrugged. “The case files were closed. The killer was never found, and the trail went cold. But the pattern is almost identical to what we’re dealing with now.”
Karan leaned over the desk, flipping through the file. “Could it be the same guy? Maybe he’s resurfaced after all these years?”
Rohan nodded slowly. “It has to be. He’s starting his game all over again.”
Kavita bit her lip. “There’s more. I did a deep dive into the old victims’ lives, and I found a small, almost unnoticeable detail. Each of them had visited a specific place in the weeks before they were killed.”
Rohan’s attention sharpened. “Where?”
“A local charity. It’s been closed for years now, but all of the victims had some sort of involvement there before their deaths. And… so did Maya.”
Karan’s eyes widened. “You think that’s the connection?”
Rohan stood up, his mind racing. “It’s more than that. It’s the key. Whatever happened at that charity is where this all started. We need to dig deeper, find out who was involved.”
Kavita nodded. “I’ll get you everything I can on the charity and the people who ran it.”
Rohan felt the familiar surge of determination. “Good. We’ll find him. This time, we won’t let him slip away.”
Scene 4: The Silent Shadow Strikes Again
Just as the pieces of the puzzle were beginning to come together, a sudden, chilling call came through on Rohan’s phone.
“Inspector Malik,” a voice whispered on the other end. “You’re too late. You couldn’t save her. You won’t save the next one either.”
Rohan’s blood ran cold. “Who is this?”
The voice chuckled softly, a sound that made Rohan’s skin crawl. “The game has only just begun, Inspector. The next victim is already marked. But you won’t find her in time.”
Before Rohan could respond, the call disconnected, leaving him with a sinking feeling in his gut.
Karan saw the look on Rohan’s face. “What is it, sir?”
Rohan’s jaw tightened. “The Silent Shadow. He’s taunting us again. There’s another victim… and we’re running out of time.”
Karan looked grim. “What do we do?”
Rohan took a deep breath, his mind racing. “We find that charity. We find out who’s behind this, and we end this once and for all.”
As they headed out of the station, Rohan couldn’t shake the feeling that they were being watched. The Silent Shadow was always one step ahead, but this time, Rohan vowed to catch him. No more mistakes. No more lost leads.
The chase was on again.
