The Dark Invitation: Hunted Secrets and Lies

Episode 8: The Final Riddle

Sarah and David are frozen in shock, their faces pale from witnessing Emily and Mark’s horrifying fate. Sarah, still confused and scared, struggles to understand why she’s even there. Her mind races as she tries to recall anything from her past that could explain this nightmare.

Sarah: (whispering) Why am I here? What could I have done to deserve this? None of this makes sense…

David is equally lost, staring blankly at the floor. Suddenly, the eerie silence is shattered by the Host’s chilling voice.

The Host: (mocking) Well, well… it seems you’ve survived this far, but it’s not over yet. Ready for the final riddle, Sarah? This one’s for you. Time to uncover the truth of your past.

Sarah’s heart sinks as the Host continues, his voice filled with twisted glee.

The Host: (dramatic) “Bloodlines entwined, a bond long buried. In shadows, your fate was carried. He was taken before his time, a victim of another’s crime. Find the picture, uncover the face, and you will know your rightful place.”

The room falls into deep silence, leaving Sarah and David to digest the riddle. Sarah’s hands tremble as she tries to make sense of the cryptic words.

Sarah: (confused) “A bond long buried?” What does that even mean? A victim of a crime?

David’s face hardens as he stares at Sarah, hoping she will have an answer.

David: (nervously) Do you have any idea what this could be about?

Sarah: (shaking her head) No… I don’t… I can’t remember anything like this from my past.

As they wander around the room, looking for clues, Sarah stumbles upon an old, dusty box hidden behind a large portrait. She hesitates but opens it. Inside, she finds an old, faded photograph.

Sarah: (gasping) This… this is me! And my family!

The picture shows Sarah as a child, standing with her family members, but there’s another family beside them—one she doesn’t fully recognize. Among them is a boy, around her age.

Sarah: (confused) Wait… this is… Alex?

Suddenly, a flood of memories rushes back to her. Sarah remembers her cousin Alex. Their families were close, but something terrible happened when she was just six years old. Her parents and Alex’s parents had a falling out—something about a business deal gone wrong. She remembers overhearing arguments, tension, and fear. Then one day, Alex’s family left without a word, and they never spoke again.

Sarah: (shocked) Oh my God… Alex was my cousin. His family left when I was just a kid… but why?

As the memories come rushing back, she begins to connect the pieces of the riddle. The bloodlines, the victim of a crime—Alex must have been murdered. And the riddle mentioned “another’s crime.”

Sarah: (realizing) Mark… Mark killed Alex. It wasn’t just a random businessman… it was him.

David looks stunned, trying to grasp the weight of Sarah’s realization.

David: (shocked) So, that’s why you’re here. Mark’s crime is connected to your family.

Sarah squeezes her eyes shut, trying to push away the flood of emotions. She had always been kept in the dark about her family’s past, but now, standing on the edge of a nightmare, everything was coming back in fragments—her forgotten cousin, Alex, her family’s mysterious distance from his, and the dark cloud that hung over her childhood.

Sarah: (whispering) My family… they never told me. I didn’t know…

The Host laughs, his voice dripping with mock sympathy.

The Host: (sarcastic) Oh, poor Sarah. Kept in the dark all these years, hidden from the truth. But the time for secrets is over. Your family betrayed Alex’s family… and now you’ll pay the price.

Sarah’s legs give out, and she collapses to the floor, overwhelmed. Her cousin’s murder. Her family’s betrayal. And now, her part in a deadly game she never asked to play. She looks up at David, her voice barely a whisper.

Sarah: (desperate) I didn’t know, David. I swear, I didn’t know…

David: (softly) I believe you, Sarah. But we need to get out of here. We need to survive this.

Suddenly, the lights flicker, and the room feels even darker, suffocating. A new riddle appears on the wall, written in red, eerie letters. The final riddle, meant for Sarah.

The Host: (slowly) Here it is, Sarah. Your last chance. Your final test. Answer it correctly, or be trapped here forever… just like the others.

The riddle reads:

“A family shattered by greed and lies,
A child forgotten beneath the skies.
To face the past and right the wrong,
Only truth will break the song.
What secret did your family hide,
That led to betrayal far and wide?”

Sarah stares at the words, her mind racing. What secret? What truth was hidden from her all these years? She had no memory of any betrayal—only the vague recollections of her cousin and his family disappearing. But now, she realizes the answers have been in front of her the whole time.

Sarah: (whispering) The deal… it was about Alex’s family, wasn’t it?

The Host remains silent, waiting for her to continue. Sarah’s voice shakes as she speaks, her eyes welling with tears.

Sarah: (crying) My parents made a deal with Alex’s family… but they betrayed them. They took something from them—something important. And that’s why Alex’s family was destroyed. They tried to fight back, but… it was too late.

The Host’s laughter fills the room, a cold, mocking sound.

The Host: (amused) Very good, Sarah. But that’s only half the truth. The question is… what was taken? And why does it matter now?

Sarah’s mind races, trying to remember. Her heart pounds as she realizes the answer.

Sarah: (shocked) It was money… or land… something valuable. My family took it, leaving Alex’s family with nothing. That’s why they left. That’s why they disappeared.

Mr. White steps forward, his eyes gleaming with dark satisfaction. There’s a tension in the air, a sense of dread building as he speaks.

Mr. White: (calmly) Well, Sarah… maybe it’s time you learned the complete truth.

They turns to Mr. White, who has been standing quietly in the background, observing the chaos unfold. His expression changes—a slow, sinister smile spreading across his face. Sarah freezes, her eyes wide with shock.

Sarah: (stunned) What… what do you mean?
