The Dark Invitation: Hunted Secrets and Lies

Episode 10: The Final Truth

After Mr. White asked, “Do you know who the host is?” Sarah and David shouted together, “Alex!” Their voices echoed through the mansion. Mr. White laughed, and then the host’s voice followed, “Yes, it’s me, Alex.”

Mr. White turned to Alex, saying, “Now they’re all yours. Do whatever you want with them. I’ll be gone for a while.” He walked away, leaving Sarah and David in silence with the chilling presence of Alex.

David whispered to Sarah, “We need to find something, anything, to get out of here. We can’t just wait.” They ran upstairs to the hallway, finding several rooms. They decided to search each one, even though they didn’t know what they were looking for—just anything that could help them escape.

As they rummaged through the rooms, David found an old agreement. “Sarah, come look!” he called out. The paper was fragile and hard to read. Sarah looked closely and said, “This looks like a property deal between my parents and Mr. White, but it’s too old to read properly.” She squinted at the words, and suddenly her face turned pale.

“This is the same property Alex’s parents were fighting for! And Mr. White is involved in this deal… against Alex’s parents?” she whispered in shock. “But Mr. White said he was supporting them! He’s hiding something!”

David looked at her seriously. “Sarah, this might be the only way out of here. We need to make him reveal the truth about the past and how Alex’s parents really died. I bet there’s more to their suicide than we know.”

Sarah and David move through the dim, narrow corridors of the mansion, their steps echoing in the silence. The air is thick with dread, but they know there’s no turning back now. They had uncovered too much, and the final pieces of the mystery lay with Mr. White. They push open the door to his study, where they find him sitting confidently behind a large desk, the dim glow of a lamp casting ominous shadows across his face.

Mr. White looks up as they enter, his calm expression barely hiding the cold malice underneath.

“Well, well,” Mr. White says smoothly, “I see you’ve decided to visit.”

Sarah holds up the old property document. “We know what this is. You were part of the deal between my parents and Alex’s parents. You lied about supporting them. You were betraying them all along!”

A slow smile spreads across Mr. White’s face. “Ah, you found that little relic of the past. But you don’t understand, Sarah. Your parents weren’t saints, and neither was Alex’s family. They were just as corrupt as everyone else. They fought over the property like wolves, and in the end, they paid the price.”

David steps forward, his voice steady but angry. “You killed them, didn’t you? You murdered Alex’s parents.”

Mr. White leans back in his chair, crossing his arms confidently. “Murder? No, David. I simply… took care of a problem. Alex’s parents found out about the deal, and they wanted to expose me. I couldn’t let that happen, could I? They left me no choice.”

Sarah’s voice trembles with rage. “They trusted you. You were like family to them. And Alex, he trusted you like a father!”

Mr. White’s expression darkens, but his tone remains proud. “That’s the beauty of it, Sarah. Alex has no idea. I raised him after his parents’ unfortunate demise, and he believed every word I told him. He worshiped me, trusted me. He never questioned what happened. And why would he? I was the only one left.”

David looks disgusted. “You’re a monster.”

Mr. White shrugs, unfazed. “Perhaps. But I’m also a survivor. And that’s what this world is about. Alex’s parents were weak. They couldn’t see the bigger picture. They thought they could fight me in court, but in the end, I won.”

Sarah glares at him. “You trapped us in this nightmare. Why? What did we do to deserve this?”

Mr. White’s smile fades, replaced by a cold, bitter expression. “You ask why? Oh, Sarah, it’s simple. The others—Mark, Lisa, Emily—they have their obvious reasons. Betrayal, lies, greed. But you, Sarah… you’re here because your parents betrayed me.”

Sarah blinks, confused. “My parents? What do you mean?”

Mr. White rises from his chair, his voice growing more intense. “After winning the property dispute, your parents cut me out of the deal. They promised me a share, but they gave me nothing! They ruined my life just like Alex’s cursed parents did! And you… you’re the reason I lost the only woman I ever loved.”

Sarah’s face twists in confusion. “What are you talking about?”

Mr. White’s eyes blaze with anger. “I loved a woman once. But when I took Alex in, she refused to be with me. She didn’t want to care for a child. She left me because of him! Your parents, Sarah, are responsible for all my losses. And now, you… you will pay for their betrayal.”

Sarah recoils in shock. “I had no idea… My parents never told me anything.”

Mr. White leans closer, his voice dripping with venom. “Of course they didn’t. They wanted to keep their hands clean. But now, Sarah, it’s time for you to pay the price for what your family did.”

David steps in front of Sarah protectively. “This isn’t about her. This is about your greed and your hate.”

Mr. White laughs coldly, his eyes glittering with malice. “Greed? Hate? No, David, this is about survival. And in this game, only one thing matters—winning. Your lives, your secrets, everything you’ve done has led you to this moment.”

Suddenly, a shadow falls across the room, and Mr. White freezes as he feels a presence behind him. It’s Alex, standing silently, listening to every word.

Mr. White’s face pales as he realizes what he’s done. “Alex… no. They’re lying! They made me say this. You know I loved you. I raised you like a son. I would never hurt your parents. Please, Alex, you have to believe me!”

But Alex’s face is unreadable, cold. “You killed my parents. You betrayed them… and me.”

Mr. White stumbles back, panic flooding his voice. “No! No, Alex, it wasn’t like that! I… I had to do it. They were going to ruin everything! Please, Alex, don’t listen to them!”

Alex steps forward, his voice low and full of quiet fury. “You took everything from me. My parents, my trust… you destroyed it all.”

Mr. White’s desperation turns into a scream as he begins to disappear into the darkness. “No! No! Alex, please! You know I’m the only one who cared for you. Please… nooooo!”

His voice fades into nothing as he vanishes, leaving Sarah and David standing in stunned silence.

After a long moment, Sarah speaks, her voice shaky. “He… he was the one behind all of this.”

David nods, still processing everything. “But why? Why did he go so far?”

Just then, they hear a sound from upstairs. Sarah’s eyes widen in shock. “David… it’s Lisa! I hear Lisa!”

David’s eyes widen in disbelief. “Lisa? She’s alive?”

Without wasting a second, knowing that they’re not alone in this twisted nightmare anymore. They rushed upstairs and found Lisa, Emily, and even Mark, though Mark was weak and badly injured.

Suddenly, they heard a loud bang—the main door had flung open! The sunlight streamed into the mansion. Sarah and David helped Mark to his feet, carrying him down the stairs. They hurried outside into the fresh morning air as the sun rose, bathing the world in warm light.

Two weeks later, Mark was recovering in the hospital. After he regained his strength, he made a decision. “I’m going to arrest myself in for Alex’s murder,” he told them solemnly.

Sarah and David looked at each other, knowing that though they had escaped the mansion, the past still had a hold on them all.

But at least, for now, they were free.
