Episode 3: The First Riddle
[Scene: The Dining Room]
The group is paralyzed with fear, staring at the empty spot where The Host had just vanished. The eerie laughter still rings in their ears, making the atmosphere even more chilling. Everyone looks at each other, scared and confused.
Sarah: (panicked) What just happened? Where did he go?
David: (nervously) He didn’t just disappear… did he?
Before anyone can answer, a deep, scary voice echoes through the room, bouncing off the walls.
The Host: (loud and clear) Let the game begin.
Everyone gasps and jumps to their feet, their fear quickly turning to panic. They bolt towards the main door, trying to escape the mansion. Mark grabs the door handle and pulls, but it won’t budge.
Mark: (frustrated) It’s locked! We can’t get out!
The Host’s voice echoes again, this time even louder.
The Host: (chilling) If you want to leave, there’s only one way. Solve six riddles—each connected to your past secrets. Solve them, or stay trapped forever.
Suddenly, a large clock appears on the wall, ticking down from 60 minutes. The ticking sound fills the room, adding to the tension. In the middle of the table, a piece of paper appears out of nowhere.
Lisa: (whispers) What is this? A clue?
Sarah picks up the paper with shaky hands and reads the riddle aloud.
Sarah: (reading) “I was taken in darkness, hidden from light. Only the guilty know my sight. What am I?”
They all exchange nervous glances, the tension in the room thickening.
Emily: (thinking) It sounds like…a prison? Or something to do with being locked away.
Mr. White: (calmly) It’s more than just a simple answer. The Host said these riddles are connected to our pasts. This must be about one of us.
David suddenly goes pale, his eyes widening as realization dawns on him.
David: (quietly) It’s me… I think the riddle is about me.
Everyone turns to look at him, confused and curious.
Mark: (frowning) What do you mean?
David: (hesitating) Years ago, I was arrested… it was a mistake, but I spent a night in jail. No one knows about it. It was kept quiet. But the riddle… “taken in darkness, hidden from light”—it fits.
Sarah: (nodding) So the clue is about your past.
Emily: (softly) But how does The Host know this?
Before they can dwell on it, the clock’s ticking grows louder, reminding them they’re running out of time.
Mr. White: (focused) We need to solve the riddle. “Only the guilty know my sight”… It’s talking about a jail cell. But what are we supposed to do with this information?
They look around the room, their eyes searching for any hint or connection to David’s past. Sarah notices a painting on the wall, depicting a dark, shadowy figure standing behind iron bars.
Sarah: (pointing) Look at that painting! It matches the riddle!
David walks over to the painting, examining it closely. There’s something odd about the frame—it looks like it could move. He gently pushes on the frame, and with a soft click, the painting swings open like a door, revealing a small compartment hidden inside.
David: (surprised) There’s something in here!
He pulls out an old, rusty key, along with another note. His hands shake as he reads the note aloud.
David: (reading) “The past may be hidden, but the truth always comes to light. Use this key to unlock your next challenge.”
The group stares at the key, their fear mixed with relief at having solved the first riddle. But they know this is only the beginning.
Mark: (determined) We solved one. Five more to go. Let’s keep moving.
The group gathers around, ready to face the next challenge. The clock continues to tick down, reminding them that time is not on their side.
As they prepare for the next riddle, they can’t shake the feeling that all of this is connected to The Host. Somehow, he knows their secrets, and they’re starting to realize they’ve stepped into a game far more dangerous than they imagined.
